Interview

What did you want to be when you were a child?

Actually, I wanted to become a bike trial world champion already back then :) My teacher thought that was pretty cool too, but as plan B we agreed on mechanic.

What career did your parents have in mind for you?

My mum would have liked me to become a nurse. After my civilian service, I took the entrance exam and passed, but I had the feeling that I would rather ride a bike, so everything turned out a bit differently.

When and how did you get into BikeTrial?

A friend of my dad (a mototrial rider himself) showed us a few tricks with his trial bike. My brother and I liked it so much that we bought two old trial bikes from him on the spot for 150 shillings. He also gave us two VHS tapes with videos of Hans Rey and Ot Pi, which we watched countless times and tried to copy all the tricks.

Which is your favourite place to train?

My favourite spot for trial riding is a riverbed in the neighbouring village. I used to spend a lot of time there because I was always alone and undisturbed and at the same time the location is just relaxing. Today I always go there to relax on fine summer days.

You’ve been wearing the 720 Awake 1.0 for a few months now. How did you get involved with the brand?

I became aware of 720 at the beginning of the year when I heard about a young start-up from Bolzano that was setting new standards in helmet safety. I thought the concept was cool and so one thing led to another.

What convinced you to wear this helmet?

Safety is one thing, but the perfect fit and the cool design complete the ideal bike helmet.

How important is safety for you?

Especially when you are trying to push your performance limits or want to take the perfect shot while filming, falls are unavoidable. That’s why it’s a good feeling when you can minimise the risk – in this case in the head area – and no longer have to worry about it.

What else do you like to do in your free time?

Cooking and eating, watching good movies, listening to music, going to small concerts now and then and tinkering with my camper.

What do you want to be when you grow up – from today’s perspective?

I’ve given up thinking too much about the future, I’m quite happy at the moment and can do exactly what I’ve always dreamed of. I hope it works out like this for a few more years, otherwise I will find a new exciting challenge at the right time.

What have you always wanted to say in an interview, but never dared to?

Actually, I just want to say a big thank you to the whole 720 crew for your great work and all the support! Keep up the good work and I’m looking forward to many more years with your helmet on my head!
