Interview
What did you want to become when you were young?
Luckily I didn’t think too much about that :-)
On the other hand, what career did your parents have in mind for you?
My parents were always very open. There was never any pressure in any direction, which helped me a lot in my personal development.
When and how did you get to the BikeTrial?
In the beginning I wached photos and videos of Hans Rey and tried to copy his tricks. At the same time my father bought a trial motorbike and took me to his trainings. I started taking part in trials competitions when I was about 12. As there were few competitions in Austria, I had to prove myself internationally and immediately did well.
What was your greatest sporty moment?
BikeTrial World Champion 2008. It was already clear to me at that time that the title would be a turning point for my career. My motivation for competitions was already waning. I wanted to be freer in my development and through Red Bull I had the opportunity to travel worldwide with my shows.
How did it come about that Red Bull wanted you on their team?
I was suggested by a Red Bull “Friend”. Red Bull has contacts in almost all sports that are basically interesting for them. And it was one of these contacts who got me involved. I’ve been with Red Bull for 21 years now
You’ve been wearing the 720 Awake 1.0 for a few months now. How did you get to the brand?
I’ve known Werner (Ebner, 720 Strategic Marketing Manager) for a long time and saw the helmet “live” for the first time on him. At the same time, I’ve been following the brand’s development since its appearance on 2 Minuten 2 Mio (2 Minutes, 2 Million – an Austrian TB program dedicated to start-ups and innovations). I like start-ups and innovative products. When Werner asked me if I knew any possible testimonials for the helmet, I pointed at myself.
What convinced you to wear this helmet?
The safety aspect. At the beginning I was critical because of the weight, but after the first rides it was immediately clear that it didn’t bother me. Safety first. And the helmet just sits really comfortably on your head, doesn’t slip and is very well ventilated.
Does your little daughter already imitate you? Have you already been able to pass on your love of biking to her?
My daughter gives all my actions a different meaning. And yes, she has a lot of fun on the bike and that’s the most important thing for us.
What values do you want to pass on to your daughter in life?
Stay grounded, be open to new things and do what makes you happy.
What do you want to be when you grow up – from today’s perspective?
Haha, good question. I don’t plan too far into the future. From today’s point of view, I can do my current job for a few more years, let’s see what happens after that.
